My Carnivore Insomnia Fix - Finally Found the Cause | It Took Me 6 Mos. of Tracking

Waking up at around 3 AM while eating keto or carnivore is fairly common. Feeling like you're "always hungry" is another problem for some people. I've majorly struggled with both of these issues & I believe mine are related to unstable glucose levels and insulin suppression due to eating low-carb for years now. I came across your video this morning, up at 1:30 am , having issues sleeping, even though my doctor prescribed sleeping pills and taking every night. I’m a diabetic for over 30 years and insulin dependent. February of 2022 came across a video with Dr Berry who changed and save my life , started keto beginning of March and in the first day didn’t require insulin, this went on for 3 weeks and I couldn’t believe it I thought my cgm was malfunctioning. I live on an island in Barbados which as I messaging you a hurricane is passing its 4am here. My doctor thought I was crazy, anyway I continued to follow Dr berry and after 3 weeks on keto I switched to carnivore. Now on only small dose of slow acting insulin and Victoza. Victoza for about 8 months I think, having the opposite effect which is not able to eat my one meal a day, used too eat a whole ribeye, now I eat a little less than half and I incorporate cucumber and tomatoes / olive oil and vinegar but I struggle. I alternate between keto and carnivore depending how I feel , just lost power electricity

    The American Diabetes Association said, quote, "Creatine in meat is converted to creatinine on cooking, which is absorbed, causing significant increases in serum creatinine." This will totally screw up you eGFR results. It you want truly accurate test results you need to add the "Cystatin C" test to test for kidney function. Its a fairly new test test. Advantages of Cystatin C test: Not affected by muscle mass, age or diet, (including carnivore diet) making it a more reliable marker of kidney function and disease. Can detect early kidney disease when other tests (eGFR, creatinine, or urine albumin) may give inaccurate diagnosis. It's more accurate in individuals with abnormal body mass or muscle size. It's just a way a more accurate test that can measure kidney functions a lot better than the eGFR and more accurate on the creatinine/creatine levels all the way around, and a better predictor of what might lay ahead if you do have kidney disease when the eGFR test wouldn't show it. I came back with stage 3 Kidney disease test also a few weeks ago. I'm not buying it! I've been on the carnivore diet for 5 years, red meat only. I talked to my doctor and she never heard of the "Cystatin C" test and I showed her some documents and proof of the test and it's accuracy, so now this coming Friday I'm getting both the Cystatin C test and another eGFR test together plus I switched to chicken and fish temporarily just for the coming test. Dr. Shawn Baker had the same problem with the eGFR test results and how he proved he didn't have kidney disease by using the "Cystatin C" test. It's a different world!

    If you dont eat carb no way A1c 5. I was in keto six months I dropped from 5.9 to 4.2.. if yours is 5 means you are cheating a lot.

    • @LifeDIY
      @LifeDIY 19 годин тому

      Wow, 5.9 is very high and your 4.2 is exceptionally low, especially for keto. Prior to carnivore mine was 4.9, while eating extremely low carb. Human physiology is different from person to person - so our lab numbers are not going to be similar. Even 15 years ago when I was eating super unhealthy my A1C was 5.0. My fasting insulin was recently tested and it was 3.7. Dr. Ken Barry (very popular carnivore doctor) shared his labs recently and he is said to be strict carnivore for years and his fasting insulin was 7! In addition, A1C is a singular test. Fasting glucose, hsCRP, c-peptide - are all important indicators when viewed together, along with other labs.

    I love the hat, Holly!…It really suits you...I think we’d all be dejected if we paid that sort of money on a “luxury” car, and then find out that it’s become a mouse home…🤮Wish you all the best in finding a solution. I don’t think I’ve ever heard anyone say that they have a dump phobia, but when I think about it, I guess they could be a bit eerie. I have a bit of a phobia about mice. It's mainly because when I was about 10 years old I had to clean up my cats many mice kills. Yuk! I’m always excited when I get new plants as well…Love to know which ones you got.? Nice to get a peak at your life in the woods. Looking forward to part 2.

    • @LifeDIY
      @LifeDIY 2 хвилини тому

      Thank you, Joe! I'm surprisingly not upset about the car, and I would be relieved to just get rid of it. I'm losing hope in the idea of being able to clean it out because the damage may be too extensive, but who knows. I totally understand the phobia of mice too. I absolutely hate having to remove any dead mice from places and it's really rough if I am stuck doing it (I try to have my son do it as much as possible). :) I haven't been on IG in a while, but I want to check out your garden pictures again. I've become obsessed with plants and landscaping, though it's pretty difficult at times due to the extreme amount of mosquitos we have. Lately it's been getting very cold overnight and it's remained in the 40s until around 7 AM, so I've been happily doing yard work from 5-6:30 or 7, whenever the mosquitos get out of control. We've had a good few days so I've been loving it outside. I recently bought coral bells from the store, though I didn't share it in this video. They seem like they'll work well in our semi-shady area and they are deer resistant, which is a necessity here. I also transplanted some ferns to put near the coral bells. I like to use/move around what is naturally growing, if possible. Do you have a plant identifier app? I downloaded the app "Picture This" and it has been incredible! It's so good at detecting plants, trees, etc. and I'm fascinated by the variety of things that are growing here. The most interesting find was a peculiar type of grass which I found intriguing and it turns out it is called field horsetail and said to be one of the few surviving plants from the time of the dinosaurs. It seems to be considered a weed, but I love them. I'm finding that doing work outside, even picking weeds, is so relaxing in the morning. I hope things are going well in your garden.

    I like the happy theme tune. It makes your life seem like an advert for your life, starring you as you, and guest-starring Tomkin the squirrel as the bear. No, that can't be right ... I once had a vole that lived under my floorboards and popped in each night to eat my avocado pears. That furry was the most expensive pet that I never owned. It would bore a single one-inch hole into every avocado in the fruit-bowl, and then go home to sleep it off down under. During the day, I would hear the small scraping as he rocked back and forth in his tiny rocking chair, smoking his tiny vole-pipe. You may think that the line between truth and imagination is blurring at this point, Holly, but that just shows how much YOU know because Beatrix Potter stories are based on actual science. Anyways, I was in my "veganism will make me immortal" stage, back then, and I took to growing trays of wheatgrass in the kitchen to juice fresh each morning. Voley obviously warmed to the idea because he began to leave crop circles in each tray. I'd wake up to find that my entire indoor grass-farm had been nibbled into a selection of runic symbols, probably dating back to some earlier epoch of Volic history. You can imagine my delight at the endless pageant of nature and her creations as I dumped seven grass-trays and four avocados on the compost heap and bought a takeaway. And yes, I know what are wondering: Why didn't I copy down the runes and take them to an expert to decipher? Because that vole was laughing at me, and not in a good way. I knew it then and I still believe it now. Having said that, it once came and sat on my foot while I was watching TV, so maybe it actually loved me or even worshipped me like a god. Either way, that didn't work out too well from the vole's perspective because I jumped in surprise, my foot flew up, and the vole landed on the piano. It survived, though, and even once brought its kids up to show me, so maybe we were still cool. That's the end of the story, you'll be relieved to hear. If you were are waiting for a moral or a climactic ending, you were always going to be disappointed because this is REAL LIFE, baby. Except maybe the bit about the rocking chair. Postscript: I've read back through the above and I can't spot anything that I will feel the need to retract or apologise for at a later date. However, the night is young and my madness is only reading about 3 out of 10 on the batshit-o-meter, so anything could happen by Monday. Chances are, I will come back weeping, tell you how sorry I am for destroying your entire life, you will tell me it's OK, because you are nice and you don't want me to hurt myself, and then I will remove the post, make a vow to be a better man, and promptly do the whole thing again within a week ...? Watch this space ...

    We live up in northern WI, and we don't drain our lawnmower. We service it in the fall after the grass has stopped growing, and we make sure it is filled to the brim with gas and put fuel stabilizer in it. If you fill it all the way up, then there is no room for moisture to accumulate and get into the gasoline over the winter. You really need to remember the fuel stabilizer since you won't be running it for 6 months or so. We also live out in the woods and have bears on our property, and we do not keep our garbage can or recyclable bins outside. We keep them inside our garage, and we only take them out to the road the morning of garbage pickup. I would suggest checking your ac unit every spring before it gets warm enough that you need to use it. Make sure nothing has made it a home or it's not gunked up with leaves, etc, and if something is wrong, you'll have sufficient time to get it maintenance before you actually need to use it. We have a lot of mice as well, and we put out the peanut butter traps all year round, even in the winter. We do occasionally catch a mouse over the winter, but mostly in the spring and fall. I wonder how the mice got inside your car in the first place? That is really strange that you can't get rid of them. You might want to consult with an exterminator to see if they can solve the issue. I hope you figure out the lawnmower! God Bless!

    • @LifeDIY
      @LifeDIY 2 дні тому

      Thank you for all your excellent advice! I love how organized you and your family are. I think I'm going to create a checklist for before and after the winters. I've been fortunate that I could leave the garbage can outside previously, but I am now keeping it in the garage. I'll definitely check the AC unit every spring. That's good to know about the peanut butter traps. That's what we were doing before. I should have shared more about the mice in the car situation. I didn't have the car for very long before noticing the mice....so I do wonder if a couple mice were there when I bought it. Otherwise, they were from my area or garage. Sometime shortly after getting the car, I drove for an hour to go to a store and I parked. As I was going back into the vehicle I saw several mice crawl out from the back tire area. They were panicking running back and forth and not knowing what to do or how to get back into the car. That's when I first noticed an issue. It's just been severe since then. The car was really nice before but there's probably extensive damage or lots of dead mice and other remnants under the seats or behind things. I have contacted some exterminators but they won't help unfortunately. I'll try to contact some other ones.

    Oh my gosh, Holly, I just love seeing these back woods videos of what life is like for you! I find them so interesting! ❤ I am SO sorry for all you have been through lately! I think you are so amazing to be able to live out there and handle all that you do! Mice can be such a nightmare! That just sounds awful about your car! 😩 I live in the city and recently had them get under my hood. Of course it happened during a time when I had not been driving my car, and so when I got back in and turned on the AC, it smelled like a hamster cage! 😨 Luckily, I took it into a car repair shop that same day, and I was able to pick it up the next day mice free! 🙏🏻 I don’t think there had been any mice left, but they cleaned it all up, took out the AC filter the mice had been living in, and they thoroughly sprayed everything down and especially all of the air vent ducts with Lysol. I had read that after three days, their droppings no longer carry any viruses, but it’s just nice to know that it was all disinfected anyway and cleaned up! My car now smells like Lysol. 😂 One tip they gave me was to put the AC on cabin recirculation when I park the car. This will close the vent leading to the outside so they cannot get in through that area. I’m sure there are other ways they can get in, but at least this is a helpful thing to do. I’m sure you know this too, but peppermint is supposed to be a really great deterrent for mice. My parents travel in an RV, and they really like cab fresh for keeping the mice away while they’re gone (they had a terrible experience once too!). Maybe if you put some of these in your car and under the hood it might drive them out? I used to do volunteer work for wildlife, and another thing they don’t like is loud music and bright lights, so it may sound silly, but maybe sticking a loud radio next to the car would make them leave too, ha ha! 😆 Oh, and after it’s all cleaned up, if a smell still lingers, you can get an ozone filter and ozone the inside of the car. That is what they used in the pentagon after 911 to get rid of the terrible smell that was left behind there. :/ I love that you feed your squirrels! My sister feeds her squirrels, and after being accidentally bitten, she no longer feeds them by hand either, but she does use a clothing pen to hold the nuts when she gives them to the squirrels. ☺️ I sure hope that bear stays away! And don’t feel bad about accidentally leaving stuff out - - it happens to all of us! I know I have kicked myself many times over things I have forgotten to do! 😆 I pray that things get better soon! 🙏🏻❤

      Thank you for sharing all of this. 🙏 I am so happy to hear your mouse/car situation was fixed and it smells good again! I think my situation might be too far out of control, so I am not sure if the car is even salvageable without a lot of work or money. But, I"ll try to find out. I'm not stressing about it. I'll be happy to get rid of the car though!!! Thanks for sharing that about your sister. It's a good reminder to be careful around these cute little animals - especially the squirrels. They get way too comfortable around people and one of them wanted food recently and jumped on my lap - and I freaked out! :) So I am more cautious and I don't feed them everyday either. How bad was the bite your sister had?

      @@LifeDIY You are so welcome!! I’m so glad the loss of the car won’t be a big deal-just so sorry it happened though! The squirrel bit my sister’s nail and cracked the nail bed slightly!! 😨 We were a little freaked at first, but we read up and learned the risk of disease was very slim. She ended up being just fine, and her nail healed. We think the squirrel confused her finger with food, and it’s possible she may have been hormonal at the time, which made her eat a little more aggressively, as in the past, she had one time accidentally bitten my sister‘s finger, and as soon as my sister screamed, the squirrel let go. They really do seem to be so smart, but accidents can happen! I think you are smart to be cautious! ❤️

    It sounds like someone spilled some very smelly food deep into the crevices of the car and then sold it. Have you thought of getting a Jack Russell terrier? :-)

    I am not sure a detail will do much for the car as it will be mostly superficial cleaning. The mice have likely carved parts of the seats (rear in particular) and nested in them, probably left a lot of waste in there that is what makes it stink no matter how much the seat covers get cleaned up. The seats will probably need to be removed if it's that bad and have the covers removed to thoroughly rinse that foam filling, maybe having it reupholstered might be a cheaper solution; mice probably were in the trunk as well and there is always the possibility of them chewing wires from the engine bay as some insulation is now soy-based and it attracts them. Good luck with the car. I love my 05 Malibu and refuse to sell it because even when it leaks some fluids and runs a bit rough, it just keeps on going and when it finally breaks down I won't be losing any, if much money.

      I completely agree with you. I think the damage is too extensive to easily fix, in addition to the fact that mice are still in there. I just saw an obese mouse in the trunk the other day! All the seats are leather and I can only imagine what is underneath them and in areas in the trunk that are not visible without removing things. It's probably pretty nasty. I'm not sure what to do. I tried contacting exterminators but they refused. I would like to get rid of the car. I wish I could use it as a trade-in but there are too many problems with it now. I found a forum post about the Chevy Impala and mice getting in - and someone said: "Who the f$!k came up with the idea of leaving a great 8" by 4" opening on the firewall????? Now I have to clean up an interior full of mice droppings, and probably get rid on the trunk mat since it reaks of urine......." In the thread the share how to block the area off. So this is helpful at least. Anyway, I am glad to hear that your 05 Malibu is running strong! That's awesome! I love my 05 Saturn Vue too, which I think I got for about $3400, which is a great price compared to used vehicles being sold now. I think I prefer older vehicles. :)

      @@LifeDIY I would try using a rodent repellent mint spray maybe some of those ultrasound repellents but those would need to have some battery adapters; gotta get those mice out first. Start stripping the trunk and the back seat, if they don't a place to nest they will start leaving and the repellents will deter them from coming back. There are places that can't be scrubbed or wiped properly, I would look into an Ozone Generator to remove all bad smells, it won't kill pests or mice but will also help to drive them away. The carpet will need to be removed to be pressured washed or maybe replaced; and the front seats will require some stripping, they don't necessarily need to be taken out of the car. The vents may need some steaming and the cabin air filter replaced, maybe the AC evaporator somewhere under the dash. The reason exterminators have refused is probably because it's a time consuming job that will net them no money or make you over pay. I would get a respirator mask from a hardware store before doing anything.

      @LifeDIY 19 годин тому

      Thanks! Good point about the respirator mask. I would definitely use it if I clean this out. I have used the ultrasound repellents and tons of mint products (after already stripping out everything from the trunk) and it hasn't worked. I don't think I can take the back seats out though.

    I have seen so many of your videos for years. I go to you for all of my skincare questions. And i never knew you had hashimoto's. I also have it. And this is what led me into looking at nad and low and behold I found your video. It's funny how i often i hear of something look it up and find one if your videos. I think I'm just going to start looming on your page first, lol. I just want to say thank you for all of your informative videos. And if you feel comfortable sharing how do you manage your hashi's? I am currently fighting doctors to get treated and I don't know what to do besides dietary changes.

      I am so happy you commented and thank you for your kind words. It makes me happy that I've created this channel, when I see a comment like yours. I am sorry you're dealing with Hashimotos. Doctors can be so difficult to deal with when it comes to Hashimotos (especially endocrinologists). You're actually inspiring me to do a full video on this - so thank YOU. I will try to summarize everything that has helped me. And, I no longer have any Hashimotos symptoms or flare-ups, though I do have general fatigue issues sometimes. If I accidently eat gluten, I will likely have a small flareup though. I was also diagnosed with narcolepsy years ago - so that is a big cause of fatigue. The thing that stopped my Hashimotos symptoms was changing my diet and 100% stopping gluten and dairy. I am highly lactose intolerant. If I were to eat gluten (years ago) it would cause a major flareup of Hashimotos symptoms - a painful lump in my throat, severe fatigue, pure white hairs in my eyebrows (I know that's a weird symptom), plus other issues. It all completely stopped and I don't have any antibodies for Hashimotos anymore either. My diet change started like that, and later on I became low-carb, low sugar, and everything has been better for me with that. Have you heard of Low Dose Naltrexone (LDN)? It's a medication that also has helped me immensely with the Hashimotos - improving my sleep significantly and giving me a lot more energy. I took it many years ago and it helped me so much that I got off of thyroid meds and narcolepsy meds. I recently started taking it again after being off of it for years and it's a life-changer for some people. It helps to modulate your immune system, it also helps people with pain and stomach issues, and my doctor thinks it is so safe that she puts it in the same category as supplements. Besides that, you may want to check out some content by Izabella Wentz - she has a website and numerous books that helped me so much years ago. Lastly, are you on any medication? Do you mind sharing any of your lab numbers? I had a horrible situation many years ago when I had such horrible fatigue and hypo symptoms and the doctor wouldn't help me. Fixing the thyroid is so important for many functions in your body (even your kidneys) but also be really careful about taking thyroid meds long-term. It would be ideal if you could take something to improve your thyroid function and then get off of it - but doctors will tell you that you should be on thyroid meds for life. I am working on getting off of mine (if it's possible - which it may or may not be) but it's a very slow process of lowering my thyroid medication (which is Armour thyroid) while taking supplements to support thyroid function. Dr. Westin Childs sells a "mulitivitamin" for your thyroid, for Hashimotos - and I used to take that daily. There's something similar by Pure encapsulations & I also used to take one from Whole Foods years ago (their brand) and that one helped improve my symptoms the most. For medication, many people find success using a natural dessicated thyroid medication like Armour (which is a pig thyroid). But, if you are having problems getting a prescription right now, I believe there may be alternatives (supplements). There may also be some really good telehealth thyroid doctors, though I haven't researched this yet. I personally know of an excellent skilled doctor in southern Wisconsin and he does phone call visits and prescriptions. I used to see him in person. If you want his information, just let me know. He was the one who first prescribed LDN to me and he has so many years of experience with Hashimotos patients. I'm just not sure if he sees patients in other states. If you have decent insurance coverage, I would ask to get a referral to integrative health. I did this over a year ago and it was the best decision ever. The doctors are so knowledgeable about all of these issues and they can also prescribe LDN if that interests you. I hope this helps!

    hello hello well that's a nice "come along with me" video, lol. btw your sunscreen video.... made me think about stuff and... yeah, that's it i am wearing spf50 in summer time from now on, lol. anyway... SOIL ? what do you need to buy it for ? i mean can't you take it out of the forest ? and yeah... bears are extremely dangerous. like.... you need an automatic AK lying around the house, just in case, you know. and what a coincidence, my air con is also out(but from different reasons, not a bear attack😆 you have to admit that is pretty cool, to casually say "yeah a bear broke my air conditioner unit😆) and the heat wave here is brutal... i can't even think straight, i swear. commenting as i watch, how in god's name do you get a freaking mice infestation IN A CAR ?😂 anyway, you're awesome in this video, honestly i loved it. before i go... uhm... pls be careful about bears(i had to say it again, sorry😅). i mean there are areas with bears around here (and in all european countries where bears exist) where it's illegal to go out walking without a gun. but if you ask me.... we could just cull bears ? idk cute chipmunks tho😇lol. i am now ending this message, it's too long as it is, leaving thinking about the smelly mice infested car🤣 nah at this point... i am thinking... poison ? idk i can't even imagine where can mice hide in a car like that, and i bet at one point they'll start chewing the electric cables, like mice always do, unfortunately. meh, it was just bad luck with it, bad karma car, who knows. see, i had a neighbor with a bad karma car like that but that would mean another 5-7 lines of text so i'll leave it for another time, lol.

      Thank you! It's great hearing from you. :) I am sorry your AC isn't working now. That's a pain. Fans help a lot though! I could definitely take some soil from the forest but the bugs are so out of control right now, I just wanted to get some bags of soil to make things easier. Yeah I think it's cool to say a bear broke my xxxxx...whatever it is! :) hahah. They definitely leave lasting marks. They are so strong and can cause so much damage in seconds. So I'll have lasting memories now of the bent up smoker and the somewhat damaged vehicle that a bear previously attacked. I setup security cameras so I can keep a better eye on everything. It helps to know if they're lurking around. Luckily I think many of the bears are timid when they encounter humans ...if you run into one that isn't - that's where there's a problem. I yelled at a bear once and it ran away like a baby - and it was huge. It made me feel better realizing it was so afraid of people. It was trying to get into my garbage at that time a year or so ago. Glad to hear you're wearing some suncreen at times! How hot is it by you?

    I'm 20 yrs old i have 10 (1mm deep and 2 mm wide scars) on my face and lots of very small scars(equal to open pores) on my face. I had done 2 sessions on dermatologist clinic and from now onwards i will do another 4 sessions at home. As i am 20 yrs old i think i naturally have i good collagen and expect in next other 4 successive sessions my scars would be all gone if not then those 10 1mm deep scars would atleast fade to very less and rest other are gone. Hopes it works. I just ordered Pen A1. Hopes dr pen A1 works. Any recommendations??? I saw good results from my past 2 session my scars gets reduced a bit, expects more in next 4 sessions.

      That's a great point about your age and how you've got good collagen. I'm assuming that it will really help you get good results. @@LifeDIY I actually at first talk about TCA cross with dermatologist but he said Microneedling would also give good results as there aren't much scars.
